Allison Mertin
Allison is in the second year of her PhD jointly with the University of Melbourne and the Royal Botanic Gardens, Sydney. Throughout her PhD, Allison will use Next Generation Sequencing, microfluidics and greenhouse experiments to describe the hidden microbial diversity of native Australian plants from natural and restored ecosystems. She is interested in understanding whether microbes within the seed interact with soil microbiomes to influence the early microbiome of seedlings. She is particularly interested in applying this knowledge to improving the outcomes of restoration programmes.
